Open SOA Telco Playground (OSTP)

Interoperability was greatly improved by the launch of SOA. The OSTP researches middleware and platform solutions in this field in order to conciliate the heterogeneous service environment. Thereby, an automated bi-directional service provisioning as well as the development of uniform service description formats and the associated service discovery stand in the focus. The dynamic service composition and delegation across service domains can increase the reusability, which is of increasing importance due to the variety of different services.


  • Creation of service platforms that enable an automated service integration and ensure a high degree of interoperability between the providers of various service domains
  • Convergence between telecommunication industry and the internet of the services (web 2.0, communities etc.), components (M2M, sensors) and multimedia content (YouTube, etc.)
  • Interoperability through service-oriented architectures (SOA), which can for example be flexibly available through dynamic Cloud systems


  • Design, development and testing of components in telecommunication regarding network access and applications
  • Provision and demonstration of software infrastructures for the research and development of prototypical, interoperable software components for current and future telecommunication networks
  • Adjustment of existing and creation of new core networks in the academic environment or on open communication systems in the industry
  • Creation and demonstration of practical scenarios in joint plug tests


  • Provision of software components in form of licensed libraries or open source products
  • Demonstration of current research and development work in press and media as well as at conferences and events
  • training, workshops and consulting
  • Documentation of research and development in the field of telecommunication and future network architectures in whitepapers, publications and prototypical implementations
