Future Seamless Communication (FUSECO) Playground

The seamless and controlled exchange of speech and other data between different end devices poses great demands on the complete infrastructure. The cooperation of end devices and core networks as well as the communication between the core networks of different internet providers must be carefully planned in order to ensure interoperability. The FUSECO Interoperability Playground supports the planning, launch and use of corresponding applications and helps with the analysis and troubleshooting of occurring interoperability problems in current and future telecommunication networks.


  • Availability of test beds for testing and further developments
  • Longtime experience in the field of IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) through the OpenIMSCore, SIP and RTP protocols and different multimedia applications
  • Research and Developement of a machine-to-machine (M2M) communication platform, that covers most features of the ETSI TC M2M specifications; Licensing and distribution of the prototype under the name OpenMTC
  • Research and development regarding the prototypical implementation of the evolved packet core (EPC), which covers many aspects of the3GPP Rel.9 standardization; distribution of the prototype under the name OpenEPC
  • Cooperation as active member at ETSI in the IMS Network Testing (INT) group in line with IMS and EPC-interoperability


  • Design, development and testing of components in telecommunications regarding network access and applications
  • Provision and demonstration of software infrastructures for the research and development of prototypical, interoperable software components for current and future telecommunication networks
  • Adjustment of existing and creation of new core networks in the academic environment or on open communication systems in the industry
  • Creation and demonstration of practical scenarios in joint plug tests


  • Provision of software components in the form of licensed libraries or open source products
  • Demonstration of current research and development work in press and media as well as at conferences and events
  • training, workshops and consulting
  • Documentation of research and development in the field of telecommunication and future network architectures in whitepapers, publications and prototypical implementations
