Networked mobility

With increasing importance of electronic and software in the vehicle and the networking of individual vehicles or of vehicles and their environment, the comprehensive competences of Fraunhofer FOKUS in the IT and telecommunication field become more and more relevant: Modern information and communication technologies, so far only known from mobile phones, entered the automobile and made it into a completely networked system – internally and externally.

Interoperability is here a requirement for the networked cooperation of the vehicle components as well as between the individual vehicles. FOKUS supports the development and the testing of new vehicle applications using technology platforms such as:

  • A communication test facility
  • A comprehensive simulation environment for vehicle communication applications
  • A service platform that is installed in a test vehicle and on which new services can be tested and experienced under realistic conditions

Quality control must play a central role in the early stages of the vehicle development. That way, errors are prevented and flexibility is created, for example during the development of variants or the subsequent changes. Therefore, test and control processes must support the systematic quality control on all levels of the development and that with interoperability-tests and scaling studies.

Fraunhofer FOKUS supports the automotive industry like manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, traffic management centers and public transportation with reference implementations and consulting. New vehicle applications are transparently implemented in close contact with customers using standardized development methods and are tested in the Automotive Lab.
